The Bloomington faculty has legislative authority over a variety of areas including, but not limited to, the academic mission of the campus, educational policies, curriculum, and promotion and tenure. The process outlined here offers guidance on the policy approval process. For assistance with the policy process, or for any accessibility issues, contact the Faculty Council Office.
Policy Development Process
Review and feedback
The Executive Committee may refer policy proposals to the appropriate BFC committee. And then, the committee gathers feedback from campus administration and interested parties, completes a draft and sends it to the BFC Executive Committee. The Executive Committee may solicit further feedback from stakeholders, refer the policy back to committee, or schedule a reading at a BFC meeting.
Consideration by the BFC
Many policies have two readings before action is taken. Once placed on a meeting agenda as an action item, the BFC may approve it, vote it down, or refer the policy back to committee.
