The Task Force on Faculty and SAA Mediation/Board of Review Processes completed its work in the spring of 2023, presenting a range of policy revisions to the BFC.
Its goal was to review policies and procedures to help support faculty and SAAs during the mediation and board of review processes. This task force was asked to consider:
- Evaluating current mediation and review policies (e.g., ACA-22, ACA-27, ACA-D23, ACA-D24, ACA-D28, ACA-D29) for faculty and SAAs and making recommendations for policy revisions;
- Evaluating the procedures to create promising practices to prepare and guide faculty and SAAs leading mediation and board of review processes;
- Discussing and identifying how to disseminate and improve visibility of the processes faculty and SAAs can expect when going through the mediation/board of review process; and
- Evaluating and recommending if a mechanism/structure (such as an ombudsteam) would be beneficial to provide early-on support for faculty to voice emerging concerns or potential grievances and learn about options for channeling criticisms and addressing complaints prior to making decisions as to what steps, if any, need to be taken to seek resolution.
