The BFC Bylaws require most standing committees to meet monthly. Budgetary Affairs and the Nomination Committee do most of their work in specific seasons. Some committees, such as the Executive Committee, Faculty Affairs, and Educational Policies, meet more often. Chairs and co-chairs are determined by the Nominations Committee.

The Benefits Committee consults with the Director of Benefits at IUB to understand and inform administrative decisions at the campus level. It also surveys and represents the needs of faculty.

The Budgetary Affairs Committee (BAC) monitors the development of the annual campus budget through consultation with the IUB Provost and IUB Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration and by attending the budget meetings of academic and some non-academic campus units.
As guided by BOT-25, the CREM committee advocates for the needs of faculty, staff, and students impacted by the creation, reorganization, elimination, and/or merger of academic programs and units on the Bloomington campus.
As a body of volunteers, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEIC) works with administrators to advocate for the needs of diverse faculty, staff, and students and serves as a clearinghouse for questions about internal and external resources.
In collaboration with the Campus Policy Committee, the Educational Policies Committee (EPC) develops and refines campus policies concerning teaching, curriculum, student information, and related matters.
The Executive Committee establishes agendas for BFC meetings, suggests nominees for ad hoc committees (such as search committees and task forces), and delegates work to the standing and elected committees.

In collaboration with the Campus Policy Committee, the Faculty Affairs Committee (FAC) develops and refines policies regarding faculty appointments, grievances, misconduct, and working conditions that are specific to the Bloomington campus.
In collaboration with the Campus Policy Committee, the International Affairs Committee (IAC) develops and refines policies related to international programs.
The Libraries Committee advises the Dean of Libraries on priorities and collections. It also monitors relevant changes in state and/or federal laws regarding issues such as copyright, accessibility, and restrictions on access.

The Long-Range Planning Committee (LRPC) is chaired and composed by the Past President of the BFC, who also determines the topic for the year. It is designed to offer space for long-term, strategic thinking about matters that are likely to impact teaching, research, and/or faculty status on the Bloomington campus.
In collaboration with the Campus Policy Committee, the Research Affairs Committee (RAC) develops and refines policies related to research and creative activity on the Bloomington campus.
The Student Affairs Committee (SAC) focuses on learning, working, and living conditions for both undergraduate and graduate students.
The Student Academic Appointee Affairs Committee (SAAAC) focuses on laws and policies that impact SAAs on the Bloomington campus.
