WHEREAS, shared governance is a bedrock principle of sound academic functioning, especially in times of crisis, and
WHEREAS, the Indiana University - Bloomington Faculty believe strongly in supporting shared governance among our academic peers, and
WHEREAS, the President and administration of the University of Evansville have proposed an extensive “realignment plan” affecting and cutting academic programs and tenure-track faculty without following the University’s established shared governance procedures, and
WHEREAS, it is our understanding that the President of the University of Evansville did not consult with faculty in an early and meaningful way during the development of the “realignment plan”, and
WHEREAS, the University of Evansville faculty overwhelmingly passed votes of no confidence in the President and no confidence in the realignment plan, and
WHEREAS, this process has demoralized the University of Evansville faculty, students, and alumni,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Faculty of Indiana University – Bloomington stands in solidarity with the faculty of the University of Evansville and calls upon the President and Board of Trustees to return in full measure to the established principles of shared governance.
