SAA Complaint, Mediation, and Grievance Process Overview

2. Department/Unit Level
Failure to resolve grievance under the college/school policies for SAA grievance.

3. Bloomington Faculty Council Level
Grievance is brought to the SAA Mediation Committee by the SAA. The membership of the SAA Mediation Committee is drawn from the membership of the BFC Student Academic Appointees Affairs Committee.

4a. Mediation finds a resolution
SAA Mediation Committee reports findings in writing to grievant and all parties named in the grievance. Grievance is noted as resolved.
Process is concluded.
4b. Mediation of grievance fails
SAA Mediation Committee reports findings in writing to grievant and all parties named in the grievance.
Proceed to step 5.

On request from the grievant, the committee informally may give its opinion of the merit of the grievance and whether it should be taken to the SAA Board of Review.

5. SAA Board of Review
(SAA Grievance to reach this level within 2 months of the incident or series of incidents that led to the grievance)
SAA may bring grievance that has not be resolved at the department/unit level and through the SAA Mediation Committee.

6. Recommendation to the Provost
(Within 10 days of hearing)
SAA Board of Review provides written recommendation to the Provost
