Specifying voting rights for emeriti

This proposal clarifies voting rights of emeritus faculty to state that they are non-voting members of the Bloomington faculty except in matters covered by Article IV Meetings of the Faculty which terminate in a campus-wide meeting, and with respect to representation in the Council.

The Bloomington Faculty Council voted to approve the proposal, with two members opposed.

Implications

Under a literal reading of the current constitution, emeritus faculty have all of the authority and voting rights of other faculty groups, including the right to vote on changes to the constitution. This amendment reserves the right to vote on constitutional amendments to the emeriti representatives who serve on the council while preserving emeriti participation in campus-wide meetings of the faculty. These changes reflect the fact that emeritus faculty may or may not be involved in current campus life.
