There are two proposals that remove timing requirements from the Constitution.
State of the Campus
This proposal removes the specific timing requirement of the State of the Campus address. The State of the Campus generally occurs in the spring, not the fall semester as currently stated in the Constitution. The Bloomington Faculty Council voted unanimously to approve this proposal.
Notice of BFC meetings
This proposal removes the specific timing requirement for the distribution of BFC meeting
Implications
Both the current constitutional requirements have been routinely ignored due to practical scheduling considerations. The amendment proposes language to allow the State of the Campus address to occur in either fall or spring semester, as long as it is presented once a year. Similarly, it is standard practice to announce meetings and distribute agendas in advance, but removing a specific timing requirement acknowledges the changing rhythms of agenda-building.
